The Great War, “the war to end all wars,” or so it was thought, began in 1914 and impacted many European countries prior to direct American involvement. With this in mind, the first event will be entitled “Putting the ‘World’ in the First World War.” This talk/discussion on Saturday, April 29 at 2 pm, will examine just how the war that the United States joined in 1917 became a global conflict, how it came to involve peoples from around the world in fighting and working to contribute to the war efforts on fronts that ranged from France, to eastern Europe and Russia, to Italy, to the Balkans, and to Asia and Africa. To better understand these global dimensions, we will be in at the position to appreciate the kind of war Americans encountered when they arrived on the battlefield, putting individuals’ experiences in broader perspective..

Deputies and officers from the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, State Parks, Alcohol Beverage Control, Butte College Police, and the state and federal Fish and Wildlife departments checked floaters’ bags at the Irvine Finch River Access and spray painted an orange line that anyone with alcohol who crossed would be arrested.
